SKETCH CARDS

Here are some Fantastic Four sketch cards that i did for the charity organization
HERO INITIATIVE. They help out former, and present day comics creators in need.
They are currently on EBAY auctioning a Hulk cover that i did. If you wish to bid, you can find it here. It's for a good cause. Have a great day!

FYI- For some reason blogger is reading the RED lines I drew as blue, and the BLUE lines printed on the boards as red.........so there's that.

CARTOON NETWORK!

The big news this week in Andy Kuhn world is that Firebreather is coming to the Cartoon Network. It's been in the works for a while, but now we can finally talk about it.  CN plans to make an hour and a half movie of the week that will act as a pilot for a potential series.
Needless to say, Phil and I are both extremely jazzed, and we can't wait to see what they come up with.

Here's a link to the story on Comic Book Resources.

More on this when I have more info to give. Till then, stay awesome!

BLEEEAARRGH!!!!

When I'm at comic conventions I do sketches for people that want them, of their favorite superhero throwing up. I do these drawings on airline barf bags. It's juvenile and awesome all at the same time, just like me! I've been doing them for a few years now, but they really seem to be catching fire recently. These drawings were quite a hit at CAPE two weekends ago, and at Emerald City-con last weekend. If you've purchased one of these masterpieces from me, and you have a scanner, I'd love it if you could send me a 300 dpi scan. Please send them to akbarfbags@gmail.com
Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

CAPE

If you're in the Dallas Tx. area this weekend (5/3), you should come out to Craddock Park on saturday for CAPE. It's the largest Free Comic Book Day event in the country, and it's put on by the awesome people at Zeus Comics. I'll be there sketching, and selling pages, and anything else that isn't nailed down. This is my first year at this show, but people i know who have done it in the past, tell me it's a great time. If you come out to CAPE, stop by and say howdy. I'd love to see you!

The Hero Initiative

Anyone who knows me knows that The Hulk is my favorite Marvel character. If someone asks me to draw ol' greenskin (now ol' redskin) I am in hog heaven. So when i got the chance to draw The Hulk and help people in need at the same time, I jumped at the chance. Here's a cover sketch that i did recently for The Hero Initiative. T.H.I. is a charity that helps aging and infirm comic pros who may not have anywhere else to turn. It's an excellent organization and i encourage everyone to donate to them. A bunch of super talented comic artists and me each did covers for The Hulk #1. These will all be auctioned off and the proceeds will go towards helping comic pros who need a leg up to get back on their feet. Thanks for lookin'!

Murderville

Someday I want to do a hardcore crime story, the kind with horrible people doing horrible things to each other. I want to draw this book in a kind of saturday morning animation style. I love the juxtaposition of the idea and the way it's delivered. I don't know if this is something that would actually sell to the american comics market, but it's the kind of thing I would buy if someone else made it.

Gene Simmons House of Horrors

I'll be out of town for a week. No new posts till i return. I'll leave you with two pages from a story i did last summer titled "Dad's Last Message" for IDWs horror anthology "Gene Simmons House of Horrors". It was written by the inimitable Josh Fialkov. I'll have more news about him shortly (tease)! In this story I used a brushy, more expressive style that I've been playing around with. To quote my buddy Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, "I hope y'all digs".

Leslie & the Ly's

My gal and I went out last night and saw a show by Leslie & the Ly's at a club here in ABQ called The Atomic Cantina.
What a great show. I had never heard of them before, and really didn't know what to expect. Leslie had the crowd eating cheetos out of her hand from the word go. She was awesome! For more info on L&TL go to www.gemsweater.com
More art later!

Hercules

Here are a couple more of the illustrations from my adaptation of "The Twelve Labors of Hercules" out later this year.

24/7

Here's a couple of pages from a story titled "Bugged" that I did last year. It appeared in the second volume of Ivan Brandons award winning anthology 24/7. This was my first attempt at coloring my own work. Done in a very minimalist style because of time constraints, and a severe lack of photoshop skills. i highly recommend this book, there is some amazing work in it. My story appears in it as well.

Firebreather Marker Sketch

Just a quick one today. Here's a marker sketch i did
as i was preparing to start the new FIREBREATHER series.
I do a ton of sketching in brushmarker on tracing paper.
I love the way that that the tracing paper takes the marker.
Hope you like it.

Next Issue Project

Here's the cover to Next Issue Project #1. It came out three weeks ago. This is one of the coolest comics I've ever seen, let alone been involved with. Everyone reading this should go out and buy five copies! With contributions by Erik Larsen, Joe Casey, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mike Allred, Ashley Wood and many more including you're humble blogger, this book is all killer, and no filler! Here's what Erik Larsen has to say about it....

"Now, I’m not one to toot my own horn. I really have tried to use this space to do something other than plug my own stuff. Sure, I could rattle on at length about "Savage Dragon" each and every column or plug various books, but my thought was to talk to fans as a fan rather than as a publisher. If I want to plug Image Comics (and they’re certainly worth plugging) there are places where I can do that. But I can’t help myself. This comic book is awesome."

If you can't believe the books publisher, who can you believe?
i was trying to find some of my roughs for this story but i think i threw out all my preliminary work...OOPS!
Take my word, and Eriks word for it, this book is great! If you don't know, now you know

Pages 1, and 6, of my Next Issue Project story
I'm having trouble uploading the colorfiles,
but I'll get it figured out eventually!

Brit #4 Layouts

Along with my work on Firebreather, I am currently doing layouts for the incomparable Cliff Rathburn on the book Brit. The book is the brainchild of Robert Kirkman, the hardest working man in comics. This current series however, is being written by Bruce Brown, and it's been a wild ride!
Here are the first four pages of my layouts to issue #4, which just came out last week. I'm having a great time doing this book, and Cliff is knocking it outa' the park! Enjoy.
A big thanks to everyone who has posted a reply. The kind words are very encouraging. I'm sorry I haven't replied personally to any of the posts but I'm new to the blogger experience , and i'm still figuring this website out.

FIREBREATHER #1 cover roughs

Here are nine of the more than forty tries i did for the cover to issue #1.
Initially I was going for a more iconic, pinup style cover. these were all done during that stage. Phil Hester, and Erik Larsen both said they'd like to see a cover that had more story elements to it. I agree, I think they were both right. none of these made the cut, however, I do like a couple of them. Who knows, they might get used for something down the road.

I also put up a rough that Erik Larsen sent me as a suggestion for a different direction.
Although i like it, this idea was also not used. The colors were just to give me an idea of what all the shapes are and how they interact! Larsen is the greatest!!!

I'm trying to post at least every other day. So please come back, and bring a million of your friends with you! Stay great!

First Post!

My name is Andy Kuhn and i draw funnybooks!
I know i'm late to the party, but i'm starting an art blog.
Please bear with me while i learn how to use a computer
in public.

This first post is a drawing of Hercules done last year for a
childrens book adaptation of "The Twelve Labors of Hercules".
I did thirty different illustrations for it and i'll prolly post more of those later.
I'll be posting some of my new FIREBREATHER art shortly.
Thanks for taking an interest in my work, and keep watching for the awesome!
